Why It Happens
Birth is one of the most physically intense experiences a person ever goes through. Even a smooth, natural delivery puts a lot of force on a newborn’s head and neck. Interventions like vacuum, forceps, a long labour, a very fast labour or a C-section can add to that stress. The upper neck protects the brainstem and the vagus nerve, which control feeding, digestion, calming down and sleep. When this area is under tension (a subluxation), your baby’s nervous system can get stuck in “fight-or-flight.” That shows up as tension, crying, feeding difficulty and trouble settling.
