Birth Trauma: The Start That Shapes Everything

Birth is hard. For mothers, yes. But also for babies.

Even a straightforward vaginal delivery involves a significant amount of force on the baby’s head, neck, and upper spine. The rotation required to pass through the birth canal, the traction involved in delivery — these are mechanical realities that can leave the upper cervical spine in a state of stress from day one.

This is not an indictment of obstetric care. It’s just anatomy.

What we’re looking for in newborns and infants: restriction in the upper cervical joints, particularly at the atlas (C1) and axis (C2). When these joints are subluxated from birth, the impact can show up in some recognisable patterns — difficulty latching, preference for turning the head one direction, colic-type symptoms, disrupted sleep cycles, and developmental asymmetry.

These patterns don’t always resolve on their own. And they don’t always show up as obvious symptoms. Sometimes a baby just seems a bit… harder than expected. More reactive. Less settled.

We check. We scan. If there’s interference, we address it with gentle, specific adjustments designed for an infant’s nervous system — not a scaled-down version of adult care. Something genuinely different.

The younger the intervention, the less the compensation that’s built up. That’s not a marketing line. That’s just how the nervous system works.
